The objectives of the Environment and Climate Change Canada Atmospheric and Meteorological undergraduate supplement are to:
- stimulate research in the atmospheric and meteorological sciences at Canadian institutions
- encourage and support undergraduate students to carry out research of interest to Environment and Climate Change Canada
- increase contacts between Environment and Climate Change Canada researchers and Canadian institutions
- promote training of potential candidates for possible future graduate studies in the atmospheric and meteorological sciences and possible future employment at Environment and Climate Change Canada
This supplement provides financial support to high-calibre students working toward degrees in the atmospheric or meteorological sciences or related fields.
To apply for this supplement, you must be holding or have held in the preceding fall or winter terms, an Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA). You must have taken or be planning to take atmospheric science or meteorology courses in a recognized undergraduate program at a Canadian institution. After your USRA work term, you will be required to provide a brief progress report to Environment and Climate Change Canada.
Environment and Climate Change Canada will supplement your USRA by $1,000.
To be considered for this supplement, you must submit the following to Environment and Climate Change Canada by email (see
- A copy of your NSERC USRA award letter and your transcripts
- A copy of your completed application for a USRA (form 202)
- A brief explanation (maximum 300 words) describing how the proposed research during your USRA will contribute to the advancement of atmospheric or meteorological sciences

A committee at Environment and Climate Change Canada will review the applications and recommend those most closely aligned with the objectives of the supplement.
Environment and Climate Change Canada will select the successful applications and announce the results by the end of September.
Environment and Climate Change Canada is responsible for releasing the award supplement. Environment and Climate Change Canada will release payment directly to you following completion of your USRA work term and upon receipt of a brief progress report from you.
