The objectives of the Environment and Climate Change Canada Atmospheric and Meteorological graduate supplement are to:
- promote graduate research in the atmospheric and meteorological sciences at Canadian institutions
- encourage and support graduate students to carry out research of interest to Environment and Climate Change Canada
- increase contacts between Environment and Climate Change Canada researchers and Canadian institutions
- promote training of potential candidates for possible future employment at Environment and Climate Change Canada
This scholarship supplement provides financial support to high-calibre students working toward a master’s or doctoral degree in the atmospheric or meteorological sciences or related fields.
To apply for this supplement, you must be the recipient of a Canada Graduate Research Scholarship – Master’s (CGRS M) or a Canada Graduate Research Scholarship – Doctoral (CGRS D) award. At the time of your application for this scholarship supplement, you must be studying or planning to study atmospheric or meteorological sciences in a recognized program at a Canadian institution. At the end of the award’s tenure, you will be required to provide a brief progress report to Environment and Climate Change Canada. The supplement is not automatically renewable but you may reapply to the supplement.
Environment and Climate Change Canada will supplement your scholarship by $5,000, provided you hold a CGRS M or a CGRS D award and continue to conduct research in the atmospheric or meteorological sciences.
To be considered for this supplement, you must submit the following to Environment and Climate Change Canada by email (see
- A copy of your notification of results from NSERC
- A copy of your successful scholarship application
- A brief explanation (maximum 300 words) describing how the proposed research will contribute to the advancement of atmospheric or meteorological sciences
- Any additional information (e.g., two letters of recommendation)

A committee at Environment and Climate Change Canada will review the applications and recommend those most closely aligned with the objectives of the supplement.
Environment and Climate Change Canada will select the successful applications and announce the results within two months of the application deadline.
Environment and Climate Change Canada is responsible for releasing the scholarship supplement. They must also ensure that the recipients of the supplements continue to hold a scholarship and meet the other requirements of the supplement.
