Canada-France partnership to advance research in generative AI and the security and safety of embedded AI is now open

Canada and France enjoy a long-standing cooperation in science, technology, and innovation. Following the announcement on September 18, 2024, Canada's three federal research funding agencies – the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), in collaboration with IVADO, are pleased to announce that the complete literature and call for applications for the partnership with the French National Research Agency (ANR) in generative AI and the security and safety of embedded AI, is now open for those teams who have completed the intent to apply step.

This initiative supports a priority area identified by the Canada-France Joint Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation, and promotes new opportunities for Canadian and France-based researchers and innovators to work together.

Important: To be eligible to submit a proposal to this call, the France-based Scientific coordinator must first have registered their intention to submit an International Collaborative Research Project on ANR’s submission website in October 2024. The France-based Scientific coordinator will receive instructions to submit the proposal to ANR.

This call for research proposals invites applications that foster scientific collaborations and knowledge exchange between leading-edge researchers in Canada and France, driving advancements in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence. Specifically, this call will support international, collaborative multi- and interdisciplinary research projects that address generative AI and the security and safety of embedded AI. Through these joint projects, the funding partners aim to leverage the unique expertise and resources of both Canadian and French academic research excellence.

Researchers in Canada need to submit a simplified application to NSERC in March 2025 (exact date to be confirmed early 2025). Complete details about this Funding Opportunity can be found on the NSERC website.
