Canada’s federal funding agencies announce recipients of Dimensions Canada grants
The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), are pleased to announce the first recipients of the Dimensions Canada grants, a funding initiative that helps postsecondary institutions strengthen their equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) practices.
In this inaugural competition, $1.1 million has been awarded to 11 projects developed collaboratively across 28 institutions to help build a more inclusive and equitable research environment nationwide. These grants support the creation and sharing of evidence‑based tools and resources to address systemic barriers across the research community and drive meaningful cultural change across Canada’s research ecosystem.
This year, funded initiatives include Au-delà du statu quo : Transformer le parcours universitaire des professeures et professeurs en situation de handicap, a project focused on advancing lasting institutional change to support EDI for faculty members with disabilities working in Canadian postsecondary research settings. Also funded is Building EDI Accountability Frameworks for Researchers and the Research Ecosystem, a project that aims to review best practices related to EDI in research and develop recommendations that uphold accountability to support research excellence and reduce harm within the Canadian research ecosystem.

By strengthening who participates in research and how it is conducted, these initiatives will lead to more relevant questions, more representative data and ultimately better evidence to inform care. That means health solutions that reflect the realities of all Canadians—improving access, quality of care and outcomes for patients across the country.
