As part of NSERC’s ongoing commitment to strengthening Canada’s research ecosystem, I am pleased to announce the launch of the Discovery Grants Impact Questionnaire (DGIQ).

The Discovery Grants program is a cornerstone of Canada’s investment in researchers across the country. Its flexibility and freedom to explore empower investigators to pursue the curiosity-driven work that underpins innovation, strengthens Canada’s economy, shapes public policy, and advances society.

This new questionnaire will complement existing evidence by equipping NSERC with important data to better demonstrate the wide-ranging and lasting impacts of discovery research along three key themes:

• Growing and strengthening national and international connections;
• Attracting and developing top talent; and
• Amplifying the impacts through applications and innovation.

Your voice is vital. The first invitation to complete the DGIQ will be issued in January to two cohorts: Discovery Grant holders whose grants ended in March 2024 and March 2025. In future years, recipients will be invited to participate upon completion of their five-year grant cycle.
