New funding available from NSERC’s Alliance International Catalyst Quantum grants

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) is committed to supporting the implementation of the Government of Canada’s National Quantum Strategy (NQS). Quantum funding announced at the 2025 G7 Summit as well as in Budget 2025 as part of the upcoming Defence Industrial Strategy builds on NSERC’s sustained investments in quantum research, much of which has dual-use applications and potential for commercialization.

New funding is now available through NSERC:

Alliance International Catalyst Quantum grants will provide up to $25,000 for one year to support Canadian academic researchers in initiating and developing research collaborations with international academic researchers in the areas of quantum science and quantum technologies. Collaborations can be either with G7 member countries (France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom or the United States) or with other countries outside the G7.

Proposals may address any challenge in quantum science, but they must aim to advance one or more of the NQS missions by addressing research in any of the following areas of quantum technologies, or a combination thereof:

  • quantum algorithms/encryption, including post-quantum cryptography
  • quantum communications
  • quantum computing
  • quantum materials
  • quantum sensing

Please refer to the above funding opportunities for more information. Applications will be accepted until 8 pm (Eastern Time) on January 8, 2026. If you have any questions, please contact alliance_quantumquantique@nserc-crsng.gc.ca.
