The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and Alberta Innovates are happy to announce that eligible researchers can now apply for the NSERC-Alberta Innovates Advance Grants (Stream II only). This funding opportunity is designed to accelerate the development of emerging technologies that support Alberta's innovation and technology priorities and have the potential to generate significant economic, environmental, health and social benefits for Albertans and Canadians.

Funding is offered through two streams:

• Stream I : Alberta Innovates offers supplemental funding to researchers in Alberta who hold active NSERC Discovery grants (Individual) awarded in specific competition years and have research and development activities focusing on targeted emerging technology subject areas/topics.

  Intake for Stream I is currently closed.

• Stream II : The general stream of the NSERC-Alberta Innovates Advance Program. Projects must advance the readiness of technologies for future market opportunities in the emerging technology areas/topics outlined in the call.

  Application deadline: Researchers must submit their expression of interest by September 14, 2026, before 4:00 pm (MST).

The NSERC-Alberta Innovates Advance Grants are intended to help transform research outcomes into practical solutions by supporting proof-of-concept activities, technology development, knowledge transfer, and commercialization. The program also contributes to developing highly qualified personnel, strengthening Alberta's and Canada's innovation capacity and future workforce.
