Funding news
Canada and Germany have a strong history of cooperation and, together, recognize the importance of international collaboration in promoting scientific discoveries. To this end, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) are pleased to announce their joint support of 16 collaborative research projects focussed on sustainable processes and chemistry. NSERC’s investment in these projects is close to CAN $5 million over three years.
These collaborative projects focus on basic and fundamental research and are expected to generate new knowledge and address one or more research challenges related to environmental sustainability. Examples of some of the research topics covered by these collaborations include:
- sustainable polymerizations
- novel types of catalysts or catalytic reactions
- separation and purification technologies
- sustainable chemistry and engineering

“NSERC and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) have funded a number of initiatives that support researchers and students here and abroad. Most recently, we announced a significant investment that focus on sustainable processes and chemistry. This is a key area of science with a multitude of impactful applications. I am proud of the long-standing partnership and collaboration we have with our German counterparts, a testament to how connecting on a global scale brings Canada and the world’s best and brightest together to tackle some of the biggest issues of our time.”
