NSERC invests more than $10 million in science promotion across Canada

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) is proud to announce new investments and recognitions that support science promotion and outreach nationwide. Through the PromoScience Program and the NSERC Awards for Science Promotion, NSERC is funding and recognizing organizations and individuals that inspire young people and the broader public to engage with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

PromoScience: Supporting inclusive STEM experiences

This year, NSERC is awarding more than $10 million to 47 organizations across Canada through the PromoScience Program. These grants help young people build skills and confidence in STEM through hands-on, inclusive activities in schools and community settings, with many initiatives designed specifically to engage Indigenous youth and youth in underserved communities.

Supported activities span a wide range of STEM areas, including water and ocean sciences, mathematics, innovation and applied research, environmental science, and emerging technologies. Together, these initiatives help foster scientific curiosity, critical thinking and awareness of STEM-related careers among Canada’s youth.

NSERC Awards for Science Promotion

NSERC is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2025 NSERC Awards for Science Promotion, which recognize outstanding contributions to science outreach and communication by individuals and groups.

Olivier Bernard (creator of the Le Pharmachien website) is awarded the Individual Award for clear, evidence-based science communication that has helped improve public understanding of health and science issues.

The Organizational Award is presented  to the Science Ambassador Program at the University of Saskatchewan for its long-standing excellence in connecting post-secondary students and researchers with communities through engaging STEM outreach.

Through these investments and recognitions, NSERC is supporting a strong and inclusive future for Canadian science, empowering youth and communities from coast to coast to coast.
