Dwight Seferos wants us to rethink our concept of batteries. The University of Toronto researcher’s expertise in synthetic chemistry enables him to develop new materials from novel resources, like vitamins, so he can create power-storing plastics that are safer, environmentally friendly and less expensive to manufacture. Power devices can be directly integrated into structural components thanks to Seferos’ innovations. This is allowing engineers to design technologies that are lighter, more compact and safer to operate. Most importantly, Seferos’ plastics can be adapted for a variety of products, which makes them a perfect material for the next generation of solar cells, automotive parts and wearable technology.
