University Partnerships

Georges Kaddoum, full professor of electrical engineering at École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), is improving public safety by developing intelligent wireless networks that maintain reliable communication in extreme and unpredictable environments.

In partnership with Ultra Electronics, Kaddoum has led the creation of next generation Tactical Wireless Networks (TWNs) designed for high-risk, rapidly changing conditions. These AI- and machine learning-powered systems automatically configure, optimise, and recover from disruptions, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for first responders, public safety teams, and military personnel during natural disasters and emergencies.

To meet the challenges of limited infrastructure and harsh environments, the team developed TWNs capable of identifying and resolving threats autonomously. Their work is supported by the Resilient Machine Learning Institute (ReMI), a hub for collaborative research and training at ÉTS.

The innovations developed by Kaddoum and his partners will help safeguard countless lives by enabling faster, more reliable communication in critical situations and extreme locations across Canada and beyond.
