Stephen Green
PAL Aerospace

Mr. Stephen Green is the Director of Research and Development and the Director of Ice and Environmental Services at PAL Aerospace. With more than 25 years’ experience in oil and gas, climate change in the Arctic, and research and development, he has managed numerous projects in ice management, aerospace and defence, weather forecasting, greenhouse gas monitoring and analysis, oceanographic monitoring, data analysis, numerical modelling, and field data collection and analysis.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Green has established relationships with a wide variety of organizations, individuals and institutions around the world that focus on the Arctic. He is an internationally recognized expert in areas ranging from offshore oil and gas to climate change, physical environmental management, ice management, escape, rescue and evacuation, and environmental monitoring. His expertise spans numerous countries, including Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Norway, Denmark, France, Italy, Germany and Kazakhstan. In addition, Mr. Green serves as Chair of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 67 (Oil and gas industries, including lower-carbon energy). ISO/TC67 is an international standard for the materials, equipment and offshore structures used in the drilling, production, pipeline transportation, and processing of liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons in the petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries.

He also serves as Chair of the Canadian Mirror Committee for ISO/TC67/SC8 (Arctic operations), where he manages Canada’s contributions by overseeing the subgroups for the development of Operational Oil & Gas Standards for the Arctic and Harsh Environments.

In addition, Mr. Green is the International Project Coordinator for ISO/TC67/SC8/WG4, the Committee for Development of Operational Arctic ISO Ice Management Standards. He is one of a few world experts in glacial ice management (icebergs) and is a primary author of ISO35104 (Petroleum and natural gas industries – Arctic operations – Ice Management). He is the Canadian federal government liaison to the ISO/TC67/SC8 Committee for the Development of Environmental Monitoring Arctic Oil and Gas ISO Standards. The subgroups of this committee include working environment; escape, evacuation and rescue; environmental monitoring; ice management; Arctic materials; physical environment for Arctic operations and man-made islands. He contributed to the development of ISO 14064, the International Standard for GHD Emissions Inventories and Verification.

Mr. Green is also past president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Indigenous Peoples Association and was a director on the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples (RCAP), which examined the relationship between Indigenous Peoples and the Canadian government.
